Aftershokz AEROPEX Wireless Bluetooth Headphones

7th Aug 2020

After trying Aftershokz in store I had to get a set for myself. The headphones are open-ear, utilizing bone conduction technology to deliver sound. Small transducers vibrate as music plays to transmit sound through the cheek bones to the ear drum. It seemed like magic that I was listening to something with an open-ear, yet no one around me could hear it. This makes it a great option for those wanting to remain present with the outside world whilst listening to their favorite tunes.

I believed the ability to still be aware would be great for cycling and running, especially whilst with others. The ability to have a conversation, or hear a car approaching for example, is where these headphones really excel.

Noise-cancelling headphones have their benefits too, especially when the background noise is undesirable. Ear plugs can be used in these situations, to prevent the sound from entering the ear canal, whilst also not effecting the bone conduction. I did find whilst riding downhill, it was difficult to hear, but fine whilst travelling at normal speeds.

Bluetooth 5.0 ensures compatibility with a large range of devices. Phone calls are also possible with concise sound quality. Battery life is rated at 8 hours, which means you can get through a full day in the outdoors without any issues.

The AEROPEX are IP67 waterproof, which is 30minutes submerged, these are not intended for swimming, but more than enough for sweat and rain showers. Aftershokz has another model, Xtrainerz, which are designed for swimming. Thoroughly recommend these headphones for those wanting to retain some hearing ability whilst listening to podcasts, music or taking calls. That is the main feature that sets these apart from the other products on the market. Great for safety and being able to keep an ear on things!
