DEVELOPMENT OBJECTIVES for the CeramicSpeed BB ALPHA:
CeramicSpeed BB Alpha PF30 Gravel Bottom Bracket 30mm, Shimano, and SRAM DUB.
CeramicSpeed started the development project by using their current bottom bracket as a benchmark and isolating all elements that make up the design. CeramicSpeed looked at each part in detail as a potential for improvement. The following criteria were set for the project:
- To make the new BB lighter
- To make it even more durable
- To enhance simplicity in the design
- To not compromise on friction reduction
The new BB ALPHA delivers the trademark CeramicSpeed low-friction performance, while boosting durability and introducing a simplified user experience across the product range. The BB ALPHA is in essence:
- Hardened stainless steel races for maximum corrosion resistance and exceptional durability
- Same high quality CeramicSpeed ball
- New light contact seals for 500% increased protection without additional drag
- Improved dustcover design for increased longevity and reduced maintenance 24 and 30 mm are 10% lighter across the range
- Optimised DUB specific cups for optimal setup with fewer spacers
- Lighter weight spacer tube design, simplified range to 1-piece or a 2-piece sleeve construction
Testing:
- More than 1.000.000 test km covered in the lab and field
- Repeated max load testing conducted at 3000 watts for 7 hours straight
- Extensive field testing in competition and training by Soudal Quick-Step (Road), gravel athletes from PAS Racing, Yeti-Fox Factory Racing (Enduro), and Cannondale Factory Racing (XC)
- Increased durability through improved seal design, optimised dust cover interface, and naturally corrosion resistant Hardened Stainless Steel races.
