Used to remove and install the cassette lockring and cogs on the rear wheel, the Park Tool FR-5.2G Cassette Lockring Tool is made from heat treated alloy tool steel and features a one inch base suitable for wrench or bench vice use.
A handy 5mm guide pin is also included for greater stability during the removal and installation process. The deep splines on the FR-5.2G provide secure engagement for any compatible lockring.
For Removal & Installation of Cassette Lockrings & Cogs on Rear Wheels
Thin wall construction allows use without removal of cones and locknuts. The FR-5.2G has 12 splines which are approximately 23.4mm across. The tool is designed to fit Shimano, SRAM (including 1x), SunRace, SunTour, Chris King and selected other cassette lockrings as well as some Shimano disc brake lockrings.
Removing a Cassette Lockring using the FR-5.2G
. Remove the skewer or thru axle
. Insert the guide pin into the hollow axle of the hub
. Push the splined body into the splines of the cassette lockring
. Make sure the teeth are fully engaged in the lockring
. Hold cogs in clockwise direction with sprocket chain whip tool (SR-11 or similar)
. Turn the FR-5.2G remover counter-clockwise using a large adjustable wrench until lockring is removed
. The removal tool must fit the part correctly, or both may become damaged
. Alternatively you can use the hex end of another Park Tool sprocket chain whip tool (SR-1), or the Park Tool freewheel wrench (FRW-1)
. It will require force to remove the lockring
. Expect to hear a loud clicking sound as the locking teeth of the lockring separate
Installing a Cassette Lockring using the FR-5.2G
. Fit the FR-5.2G into the splines of the lockring
. Turn clockwise until tight using a large adjustable wrench
