Stans NoTubes Crest MK3 Rim is even better for 2016. Wider and even lower profile, the new Crest MK3 sheds weight for faster acceleration and climbing. WideRight 23mm internal width increases tyre volume for improved stability with wider tyres. Inspired by their carbon technology, the entirely new rim shape adds strength and virtually eliminates the chance of a tyre pinch flat. Refined over the past 15 years, their Bead Socket Technology offers the most trusted tubeless seal in the business, making the Crest MK3 the best choice for lightweight, tubeless XC performance.
Technologies
We all know the most important piece to the bicycle-terrain interaction is the contact patch between the tyre and terrain, so tyre profile and tyre pressure play huge roles in bicycle performance and overall handling. But many rims just don't work well with the tyres we're all using. Rims that are too narrow fail to offer sufficient sidewall support and protection to your tyres and create a less stable shape. The result is less control in the corners, less traction on climbs, and more rolling resistance. Rims that are too wide also distort the tyre profile, decreasing traction and control and driving impacts directly into the rim, negating the impact absorbing advantages of a tyre's volume. Their WideRight rim widths are designed to strike the perfect balance between tyre volume and sidewall function
Though its roots can be traced back to the original Flow and Crest rim designs, they officially began the WideRight design philosophy with the introduction of their carbon rim shapes. With their new MK3 (always pronounced Mark 3) series, WideRight expands to their aluminum rims.
WideRight rim profiles allow the tyre to achieve its proper shape, and that's the foundation for a great handling, fast-rolling, and responsive bike.
Their WideRight system makes it easy to find the perfect rim width for the tyre size and volume you ride. Too narrow of an internal rim mixed with a high sidewall design gives you a "light bulb" tyre profile while an ultra wide rim on a narrower tyre will give you a flat to "bell shaped" tyre profile. Neither of these scenarios give optimal tyre profiles nor allows the tyre to perform as intended.
WideRight profiles provide the optimal volume without distorting the tread pattern or the side knobs so each part of the tyre is in the correct position for rolling and cornering, allowing for maximum traction and control as well as offering minimal rolling resistance. The WideRight profile advantages don't stop there. Proper tyre profiles not only allow for optimal tyre performance but also allow the tyre to do its secondary job of protecting the rim as well as the tyre's sidewall. A flat or bell-shaped tyre profile leaves the tyre exposed to sidewall cuts and creates undue chances for rim damage.

Stan's NoTubes BST Series -Bead Socket Technology rims are designed to match the shape of your tyre's bead to create a safer and more secure air tight interface. Unlike the secure "socket" of a BST design, conventional rim shapes drive the bead of the tyre down deeper into the rim, putting pressure on sidewalls that causes friction, restricts tyre volume, and keeps the interface from forming a sufficient seal for tubeless use. BST rims secure the bead of the tyre, not the sidewall, creating an air tight seal while allowing the tyre's sidewall to expand to its true, rounder, more effective profile. The result is more traction and less rolling resistance. With lower-profile, less vulnerable sidewalls, their BST rims are also lighter and stronger by design, and accelerate more quickly.
Key Differences Between BST and BST-R - TheirBST system was developed specifically for tubeless use with pressures below 45psi. From their Iron Cross to their Hugo, they offer low pressure BST rims for tyres in the 32mm to 122mm width range. The broader pressure range of their BST-R Series rims and wheelsets means they're optimized for tubeless use with tyres in the 32mm to 50mm range at pressures of 45psi or lower, as well as 25mm to 32mm tyres specifically designated as "tubeless" that feature reinforced beads designed for pressures up to 115psi. Both BST and BST-R rims and wheelsets may be used with tubes.
